MySpace has mushroomed from obscurity to 200 million members with a large proportion under the age of 18. This talk presents the results of three studies with 1,800 adolescent MySpacers and 600 parents examining exposure to potentially harmful situations (sexual predators, harassment, sexual materials, and sexual talk), parenting styles, limit setting and monitoring, and online identity formation. Larry Rosen will discuss how parenting style and attachment influences teen online behavior while Nancy Cheever will take a look at the well publicized dark side of MySpace and answer the question: “Are sexual predators lurking around every (virtual) corner?”
